SPEAKER_22He did not. I know the funniest thing of the whole commercial is it's just that kid he's got his feet up on the table. Yeah. He just holds up that picture, he's got that EVU, he's got an X through it. That cracks me up.

It was uh I can't even think of it now because they haven't done anything. Geico. Geico. Yeah, right. They for a long stretch, yeah. They were like dominating. Yeah. And then the progressive started just kind of you know, killing them. And then I haven't heard of Geico head in a long time. I haven't either. A good a good funny one. Yeah. You know, so anyway. You know what are you gonna do? Can you imagine writing for stuff like that? Oh, that'd be so much fun.

SPEAKER_22Yeah, it was just like well, today it was funny because I was I was on recess duty and this little kindergarten kid had a soccer ball. Yeah. He's all by himself. He's just as happy. He's playing with his ball. He kicks it, kicks it right directly back into his face.

SPEAKER_22Because usually when kids like, especially that young, they do something like that, they automatically go, Oh, yeah, yeah. You know, not him, nope. He was like, boom, oh, no, you know, Ashland kids are a different breed, man.

SPEAKER_22The the most prevalent clothing choice in Ashland is camo.

SPEAKER_22Yeah, belly shirts are now a thing, and I'm like, Yeah, we couldn't do that. That that no.

SPEAKER_22I was like, 'Cause you always cause you know when I you know when I see it, I'm like, I want to say something, then I'm like, no, new breed.
SPEAKER_18Yeah.
SPEAKER_22No, I can't say, you know, it's probably it's probably allowed, so I'm gonna be I'm just gonna be just shut up and uh move on my merry way.
SPEAKER_18I did say to uh m Eli, who's 18, right? He uh bought a shirt on his trip to college, I think. I think they went shopping or something. I don't know, actually, I don't know when he bought it, but he bought it recently. It's a Guinness shirt. You know, it says Guinness on it. I said, you know you can't wear that to school. What?

SPEAKER_18I said because it's alcoholic beverage. You cannot wear it to school. Yes, I can. No, you can't. You cannot. Did he know it was alcohol, or did you just like say Guinness and it was just like, oh, that's cool. I think he I think he knows it's he knows it's alcohol now. Oh yeah. But I'm pretty sure he knew it was alcohol. And it doesn't sound like he did. I I don't fault him for buying a Guinness shirt.
SPEAKER_22Is that all it says is just Guinness? There's no like no picture. Pretty sure. Pretty sure. Because I could see it if it was like, you know, had like the standard shamrock or the the or the or the harp.

SPEAKER_22Yes, you did. And nobody cared. You know what, you know what the big clothing choice back in our day was? Naked lacrosse. Remember naked lacrosse. Coat naked co-ed naked.

SPEAKER_22Everywhere. Lacrosse, hockey, basketball. We wore it in school. We wore oh, yeah. Nobody no nobody said you couldn't wear a belly shirt or you know, a tank top, but you could wear co-ed naked shirts.
SPEAKER_18Right. Made no sense whatsoever. None none whatsoever. Not that there was anything like uh visual about those shirts. It really just said co-ed naked.
SPEAKER_22Yeah, and it had some like, you know, some induendo motto on it, you know. Right. But there was you know, it was still it was a little risque, but I mean it was like nobody cared. Nobody cared. Yeah. Yep. Nobody cared. What the frick?

SPEAKER_22Times have changed. Back in my day. Speaking of commercials, okay, we've reached peak stupidity in this country. Tell me why. I'm watching, of course, you know, it every other commercial is a for a drug.

SPEAKER_22Okay. So this I they have a drug for postpartum depression. Right? Don't take it if you get depression. No, no. This is this is the funny part. Okay? You know, because you know three-quarters of the ad is warnings and side effects and all that. Yes.
SPEAKER_19They literally say, do not take if you're pregnant or are thinking of getting pregnant. As it may harm your unborn baby. I'm like, it's postpartum depression. They've already had the baby. That's why they're depressed.

SPEAKER_18Well, you know, I I always laugh at those, those, those things at the end where it says, you know, uh things like death may occur.
SPEAKER_22Yeah. I like it like it's like uh don't take methanol if you're allergic to methanol.

I recently made an Apple Music playlist of Beatles songs covered by other artists. Here for your evaluative powers are a few. Sorry, Doug, your creme de la creme of groups, Nickelback, has not recorded any Beatles covers. Thank the Lord. Um Okay. I would be very uh put out. This is uh I want to get I want to get uh this open because um I truly have not heard some of these. Uh Live and Let Die by Guns N Roses, obviously. We've heard which is great. Yeah, it is.

I just read the bio on the Bangles aptly named Eternal Flame by Jennifer Otten Bickendike. She reports that Prince saw Susanna Hoffs in a video and was turned on by the fact that Susanna was shorter than he was. So he called her up and offered the song. The song created a division within the Bangles, as the other members thought it gave Susanna the spotlight. A spotlight she loved and led to the band's demise. She he says, uh, let's see.

Bolden himself plays bass, of course, but also handles many of the guitars. Oh, longtime friend Damon Johnson uh from Brother Kane and Leonard Skinnard stepped up to uh reel off five guitar solos. Nuno Betancourt is on the album. Uh plus Flipknot and Stone Sour Frontman Corey Taylor uh making cameos on here. I'm not sure, let's see. It doesn't say so he's not singing on anything. I don't think so. It doesn't well, um I'm not really sure. Uh but I'm gonna play it. SPEAKER_22Yeah. You know, and it was a might have been Well, actually, they had a lot of people don't know this, but they had another big hit because they did the theme song from King of Queens.

With apologies to O'Brien, I thought of about a few songs like Hip to Be Square by the Huey Lewis in the news, and Donovan's Dare to be different. But two songs came to me right away when I read the question Weird Owl's White and Nerdy, and Devo's Through Being Cool. I think either one would fit, but I love Weird Owl, so I will go with White and Nerdy. An honorable mention to Through Being Cool.

SPEAKER_22Probably you know, 80s and 90s.
SPEAKER_18Right, right. Probably good. I'll tell you this, they are from the 70s.
SPEAKER_22They're from the seventies, yes. So they've been around since the seventies.
SPEAKER_18Yes. And they were fairly popular in the 70s, but they got really popular in the late 80s. Genesis again? No.

SPEAKER_18Five. Yeah, two guitars, two bass, drums, lead singer. Hesle? Nope.
SPEAKER_22Oh, speaking of hesitant, they got a new album coming out.
SPEAKER_18Yes, I know. Homage. Yeah. It uh covers album. Yeah. Yeah. I heard uh the I Love You by the Climax Blues Band. You ever heard that song? And ooh, I love you. Yeah. They cover that. Oh yeah! And they did a great job.

SPEAKER_18Um This is the album I picked, though. Have you ever heard that album? Yes. Have we done this album? I don't believe so. I don't think so either. Yeah. Um I didn't really like this album too much.
SPEAKER_22I mean Yeah, it definitely was not one of my one of their better ones, right?
SPEAKER_18In my opinion. This was the start of them kind of going off uh Well, they kind of went off the reservation a little bit. A little bit. Yeah, a little bit. Um I uh there's a and the reason I have it, A, is because it's Aerosmith. Um I should say the reason I kept it, because I did get rid of a lot of TDs, but this is one that I kept. Um but there's a and there's some great songs on here. Uh two that I can think of uh automatically, maybe three. The rest of it is just kind of they're trying too hard, uh in my opinion. Trying too hard to be uh relevant.

SPEAKER_18Uh this was so this did I tell you what the name of the album is? Just push play.
SPEAKER_22Yeah. Uh it came out. It's not a new album, but it's uh 2001. Yeah, I was about to say it was gonna early 2000s.
SPEAKER_182001. And when I say they were the most popular in the late 80s, early 90s, because they had that what trio of albums? Permanent vacation.
SPEAKER_02I wanna close my well that was even later.
SPEAKER_18That was in like 98, 97, 98. Yeah, I know. It was so they had still annoying. I know. They had and that wasn't even they didn't write that Diane. Diane Warren wrote it. Um they had Permanent Vacation. Yeah. Do Looks Like a Lady, Ragdoll, all those and then they had Pump. Yeah, and then they had Get a Grip. Yep. I call that like a tr like a treatment. That that trilogy was awesome. Yeah, thank you. Trilogy, that's what I was looking for. Um and then I don't even remember this one what did they do after uh after uh get a grip. I don't remember. I'm curious.
SPEAKER_22I kinda I kinda lost interest after this one.
SPEAKER_18Yeah, let me I'm just curious, because while I'm right here. Let's see, Arrow Smith discography.
SPEAKER_22I don't know what it was of the early 2000s, but you know, like Bon Jovi put out Crush and it was awesome, and then they just they went downhill after that.
SPEAKER_18Yeah.
SPEAKER_22Aerosmith puts out just push play and they go downhill after that. It's like, oh come on, man.
SPEAKER_18Okay, so they it looks like after Get a Grip, it looks like they didn't put another one out until 97, which was Nine Lives, which had some great songs on that as well. Um but then and then um and then this one, 2001. So at least that's what it looks like. But I'll you know, I'll play the songs that you might know from this album first, um, and then a couple of the uh songs that I like. So this one was the hit.

SPEAKER_18Marty Now, Marty Frederickson, I believe is a Swedish um producer and songwriter. And uh I'll I'll name a couple of things that he was involved with, and you'll you'll understand uh his influence on this era of our veteran rockers. So Marty Frederickson first and foremost started out with the Backstreet Boys. Okay.

SPEAKER_18Uh as a matter of fact, it's all starting to come together. Um just look up something to confirm it while I play this this uh next song from this album, which is the title cut.
SPEAKER_22Yeah. I wasn't crazy about this song either. Right.
SPEAKER_18All right. I got him mixed up, but it's it's it's uh so Marty Frederickson is a guy from I believe Sweden, but so is Max Martin. They did a lot of work together as producers and songwriters. Max Martin, both Max Martin and Marty Frederickson, I believe, did stuff with the Baxter Boys. Max Martin more than Marty Frederickson, but you see the influence. Yeah. Def Leppard's uh Now album.
SPEAKER_22Well, that sounds like more like slang, right?
SPEAKER_18Well, Def Leppard's Now album, which was panned by fans. Right. Uh looking back, I love it. Uh, but it's very boy bandish. Uh because they worked with these guys. Oh, yeah. Right? Yeah. Um Max Martin wrote uh It's My Life on with uh John and Richie. Right. Now, I think it's this one. Um going off the rails now. Um so Aerosmith, that is that is the um uh just push play. That is the album of the week. Uh we're running out of time, so I want to do this. Not that we're running out of time. It's our time, but but you know what I mean.

SPEAKER_18Exactly. Did you know that uh uh You Give Love a Bad Name was uh Desmond Child had that s somebody recorded a song uh with the exact same melody and the exact same structure that he wrote and it was it didn't go anywhere. It was on an album, uh completely different lyrics, but same same melody, same structure of a song, and it didn't do anything. So he went and when he was writing with John and Richie, he says, I have this, and they wrote You Give Love a Bad Name with new words, and it became a huge hit. But he can do that because it's his song.
SPEAKER_22Yeah, I was about to say, I mean he's not he's only ripping himself off.
SPEAKER_18Exactly. Why not? Exactly. I always liked this melody. It didn't work for this artist or this song. Maybe it'll work for you, maybe it'll work for you. Come on, John. And it did. Yeah, it did. Um, all right.

SPEAKER_22Which whatever. Makes sense. I mean it's closer to his hamburger place. But he does a good job. He d he's actually a pretty decent actor. Yeah. I I mean, nothing nothing against him. He's a i I I actually like him better as an actor than a singer.
SPEAKER_18I do too. So and of course Mark Mark. Marky Mark. Right. Did you know that they started Backstreet or uh uh New Kids on the Block together? Who Mark and Yeah. Mark was in it. Oh, I didn't know that. Yeah. In the originally, it was it was Mark was in it with Donnie and uh something uh Mark Marky Mark he had a troubled past. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. He was not a good boy. He was not a good boy, but but he made up for it. He made up for it, and uh he's on a better path now. And um Yeah. I was just watching something uh this morning, I think, an interview with Donnie Wahlberg. Uh about about Mark Wahlberg. So I was it was it was kinda neat. Yeah, it makes sense. Okie dokie.
