SPEAKER_05I'm done. Uh episode 299. Happy smoky Tuesday. Oh man. So smoky. It is so smoky. And like we were just talking about it, it moved in pretty quick. Yeah.
SPEAKER_14Um I think everybody was like, oh, it's gotta be severe thunderstorms and tornadoes and hail, and then all of a sudden, like have they always got smoke? Have they always done that? Like, I think I think that's I think that's God just going, No, but I mean You guys don't know what you're talking about. I mean because they were they've been talking about this since Sunday. They were like, oh, this is unprecedented, uh major severe weather outbreak and a scale of three out of five, yeah, you know, the threat.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Or whatever.
SPEAKER_14They were talking about it on Sunday, and I'm like, well, I mean, Sunday's a long time away. And then, you know, it got to me, it's like, oh yeah, it's not an hour it's increased. And then it gets today, and it's like, meh. Yeah. That's just that's just God going, you guys don't control anything.
SPEAKER_03Well, it's it it you know I got this.
SPEAKER_05Was it a significant because I know they were talking about tornadoes in New Hampshire or something like that, but was so it was they kept describing it as thunderstorms and you know, with significant wind and everything. Yeah. But I'm like, I remember uh they don't even warn for they didn't even warn for thunderstorms when we were kids.
SPEAKER_14No, like that but this is how you get business. Apparently. You have to make a mountain out of moah.
SPEAKER_05And they and they did for this one. Oh yeah. Man, man.
SPEAKER_14Well, it's like every winter storm, it's like, oh, winter weather advisory, and you get two inches of snow. Exactly. You know? Yeah. So I mean it's just it's just it's it's it's widespread clickbait put on by the federal government.
SPEAKER_05That's the name of the podcast. What? Widespread clickbait. I was gonna say blame Canada, but you know, well that's true because this this whatever this this uh front, is it Cold Front?
SPEAKER_14Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Cold front that's moving in or was moving in has brought, I guess Ontario is on fire.
SPEAKER_14Yeah. Yeah. Well, I just I don't know what, you know, Canada takes care of their forests, like they take care of their health care. Yeah. They don't. They've been on fire for years. Yeah, they're every summer is like something's on fire in Canada. It's like, well, why don't you guys just do like you do to your people and just kill 'em? You know? You know, oh, we can't cure you, so we'll just kill you. No, we we can't put this fire out, so we'll just let it burn.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.

We're not gonna get uh episode you're not gonna get, dear listener, episode 300 uh for a couple weeks because we're I'm gone. We're taking next week off. Yeah, I'm going away. Doug is where t tell everybody where you're going, Doug. I'm going to ATLC. A TLC. Up in Fort Kent. A uh interesting uh piece of information this year, two interesting pieces of information this year. Uh one is uh that my daughter's going.
SPEAKER_14Yes.
SPEAKER_05Uh she's very excited. Good. Uh she's got a friend going with her, and they're gonna be rooming together.
SPEAKER_14That's one of the Blanchard children.
SPEAKER_05Actually, no. Oh, it's not well I th she is going too. But she's rooming with uh her friend Bria. Oh, okay. I think I think. Oh, okay. Um there'll be two or three Blanchards there, right?
SPEAKER_14Oh, is there?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_14I only knew one. I only knew Laura was coming.
SPEAKER_05Well, Anna Marie. Well, Anna Marie, yeah. Yeah. That's that's uh you're right. Abby's probably not going. Yeah, it's probably not going. Anyway, uh so yeah, she'll have at least two friends there. So she's you just be you know, every time you leave here, you see how my daughter is. Oh yeah, yeah. Yeah, so she's gonna fit right in.
SPEAKER_14Oh, yeah, absolutely. I'm gonna I'm gonna pat her with uh my friend Azalea. There you go. So I'm gonna just let Hey Azalea, here you go. Here's somebody that takes after you.
SPEAKER_05Uh uh one thing I wanted to I was gonna ask you. This is the second thing, so my daughter's going. Uh how long have you been going? What is the what is that?
SPEAKER_14This will be my 30th year. Thirty years. That's crazy. It is crazy. That's crazy. And I have you to blame. Yes and no. Hey Doug, you wanna uh you wanna sleep in a cabin at night? Okay. Thirty years later.
SPEAKER_05How how long so you so you were you were dorm supervisor, quote unquote, uh for the first year.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, and then I was I was at the second year, but then I I was on I was the camera crew. On the second year? Yeah, the second year. So I was doing both, so I stayed all you know, I s instead of like leaving in the morning, come back at night, right? I was there all day.
SPEAKER_05Right.
SPEAKER_14And I think I did that for two years, and then I became a co-facilitator.
SPEAKER_05On the fourth in the fourth year?
SPEAKER_14Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Okay. Yep. So you were on like like like staff that that interact well, no, the camera operator, I guess, interacts with Well, I was kind of like on the outside, but I didn't. But you were a counselor in the fourth year.
SPEAKER_14Yes.
SPEAKER_05Oh, that's awesome. Yeah. Yeah, cool. Yeah. Yeah. And I was was I there?
SPEAKER_14Yeah, you were there. You were there till 2001.
SPEAKER_05When Liv was born. I brought her there. Uh actually, it was my Well I don't think you I don't think you worked 2001. Right. I went there.
SPEAKER_142000 was your last year, but you came as like a spirit supervisor. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05That's what the Marcy had put on my shirt. Yes. So I brought m um Olivia um uh to visit. And so yeah, I was yeah. Uh and I didn't stay the whole time at all.
SPEAKER_14No, I think you're only there for like a day. So so it's two thousand years.
SPEAKER_05So I went the first year, uh the first two years as a camper. Yeah. Which they don't do anymore. No. Uh so it was 87 to 2000, really. Yep. Uh I think that's what it was. So 13 years. Yep. Um and you let's see, 87, 88, 89, 90. So you came in 90? Is that right? No, 90. No, no, no. 96. Yeah. 96. So I was with you at camp for four years.
SPEAKER_14Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, we were at Baptist Park, and then you didn't make the transition to uh main school of science and math.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Yeah. That's right. I didn't make that transition. That's right, because 2001. Yeah, yeah. I was just trying to get it all straight in my head.
SPEAKER_14Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um but yeah, she's really excited about going. Good. I'm I'm glad she's excited. Good.
SPEAKER_14And uh I'm gonna I'm gonna make sure I introduce her to Ed.
SPEAKER_05Um I would really like to come up.
SPEAKER_14Should, man.
SPEAKER_05It's VIP Day and we're gonna be. I know, Wednesday, right? Yeah. I would really like to come up and uh just see Ed. Yeah. That would be fun.

SPEAKER_14Yeah, roughly.
SPEAKER_05Roughly nine. Yeah. Um yeah, I built another shelf. Noise because there was I just have so much crap. So I built another shelf and just put that crap on there to get it out of the way so that I can go through it. And uh I mean it looks it looks cleaner in there, but it's it's still there's still too much, way too much junk. But as you can see, I did start sorting through the wall of tunes. Yeah. Uh and uh as I was telling you before, before we started the podcast, I think what I'm gonna do, because we're we're doing the um uh smasher trash, right? I I told you I would take out all the CDs that I want to keep, and I started that process. So there's still I'm still keeping quite a quite a few CDs. Well, that's but there's a whole crate here that I'm that I'm gonna get rid of. Correct. Um and there are some that I'm on the fence about. Um so I have a pile of those, and that pile is gonna get bigger, I'm sure. Uh once I go through all of those ones. And I have I don't know if you knew this or not. These cupboards are full of CDs. Well, I knew they're all the country CDs. Yeah. Yeah. So I'll go through those too.
SPEAKER_14Yeah. And you got movies in there, don't you?
SPEAKER_05And I and I got movies in there, and I'm getting rid of those too. So um that's what I'll do. The ones that I'm on the fence about, I will uh we'll we'll that's what we'll choose from. Absolutely. To do this smash or trash. And that still could last quite a long time.
SPEAKER_14Oh yeah. Um I'm expecting that. Yeah. Uh we have a and I've been playing at church camp too. That's been fun. Oh, that's right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05I just came from there. So we we had our uh Haystack Union rehearsal on Wednesday, and you were uh you were somewhere else. No, Sunday. Was it Sunday? Did I say Wednesday? Yeah. Yeah, it was Sunday. Uh you were somewhere else, and and uh we just talked about this as as well. So you were preparing in your mind to be at church camp. So tell me how that's going.
SPEAKER_14It's going great.
SPEAKER_05You are you playing drums?
SPEAKER_14Yeah. Okay. Yeah, that's what that's what's fun.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_14Yeah. It's uh it's weird because I'm playing with people that I've only played with once before, and that was last year. And they're uh the Wilson sisters from uh Prescow. Wilson sisters.
SPEAKER_05Uh I think Olivia or some oh Wilson Wilson Wilson, I'm trying to place that. Yeah. Wait, wa uh about how old?
SPEAKER_14They're probably 17.
SPEAKER_05So they go to the Prescott High School?
SPEAKER_14Yeah. Their mom works there, or she's a part uh she's on staff somewhere.
SPEAKER_05Uh uh probably I probably know them, but I just can't I can't place them.
SPEAKER_14Anyway. Yeah, and then uh there's a a redhead girl. I don't know her name. I've been calling her Molly in my head.
SPEAKER_06Okay. In your head?
SPEAKER_14Yeah. Well, I don't want to be like, hey Molly, and she'd be like, it's it's Sarah. You know, she's a redhead, I've you know, redhead Irish Molly. Yeah. It fit in my head.
SPEAKER_06There you go.
SPEAKER_14And then of course my cousin Lindsay is playing keyboards and a kid named Kyle, who everybody's obsessed with because yesterday all the kids were like, Kyle, Kyle, and all he was doing was just sitting there playing a guitar. So I was just like, oh good. Of course, I jumped on that dog pile. Kyle!
SPEAKER_11So you know.
SPEAKER_14Yeah. Good. It's been fun. Good. Yeah, it's it's uh it's weird being a Baptist playing at a Wesleyan church camp because you know, Baptists we don't believe in instruments besides the piano.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_14You know, if you if you bring another instrument into a Baptist church, uh, you know, it'll catch on fire and send you to hell.
SPEAKER_05Uh I know you're being I don't think that theologically sound. I know you're being facetious. Yes. Baptists don't they are okay with other instruments, right?
SPEAKER_14I'm just Well, they're okay with it. They just don't play them.
SPEAKER_05It's just it's just traditionally they're just piano.
SPEAKER_14It's all piano, organ, and you know, you know, if if if anybody like dares to clap, everybody's like, what's happening? What are they doing?
SPEAKER_16Yeah.
SPEAKER_14You know, and you know, of course Wesleyan's they're all like, you know, they're like half Baptist, half Pentecostal, so they're like, ah, you know, hands in the air, clapping.
SPEAKER_05You know, so it's funny that you say that because I had uh I was at Mass on Sunday, Catholic Mass, right? So here's the difference. So Catholic music is very reverent and and usually organ and piano and and you know, just very how can I say it? Reverent is a good word. Stuffy.
SPEAKER_14Well, they're all a dirge. Yeah, it's like it's all the same temple. Okay, yeah, yeah. It's beautiful for the most part, but it's but it's uh you can't really get into it because you're like, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Right. So so the uh the the person that usually does it wasn't there, so they had the the the person the people that do it on Saturdays mass uh were doing it on Sunday, and they are up front, not up in the uh choir loft. They're up front, and it's a guitar and microphones, and it was like a Catholic hoot nanny. It's like Hallelujah, allelujah. Everybody nobody knew what to do. Yeah, they're like What is this? What is this devilry that's up on the stage right now? What is what is that? And then she'd be like, she she would not yell at the congregation, but she would be like, uh uh, now's your last chance to sing. I couldn't hear you last time. And I'm like, Are you supposed to do that during a mass?
SPEAKER_14Is that allowed? I don't know. Somebody call the Pope. Ask him if it's okay.
SPEAKER_05So it's just interesting, interesting. I like to call it Catholic Hooten Nanny.
SPEAKER_14Um that's what we should call the podcast. Catholic Hootenanny.
SPEAKER_05Catholic hoot bait. No. Woohoo! Um so we have uh a big gig coming up Friday. See. Um we have the Associated Syndicate is playing the Fort Fairfield Potato Blossom Festival. Yeah. Oh, I should tell you, um uh we uh Buck Dynasty. Well you had a gig Saturday. Last Saturday, little did I know it was the ball. Did you know that? So, so m the ball? Yeah, so when when um I was asked to play it, because with Buck Dynasty, we play uh it's fundraisers. Yeah. You know, we don't we don't get paid. Right. Um and so that's my phone, that's what you hear. So uh there's like uh, you know, Wendy would be like, Can you play on uh July uh whatever it was, 10th? 11th, 11th, uh at the VFW for sure. Yeah, no problem. And so I just put it in my calendar. And then uh I think it was it was that morning I went shopping. Uh we went to Graves, Hannifer in Prescott, and I saw this.
SPEAKER_14Oh, that's that's the one I saw.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah. And I was like, wait a second, this is potato ball. This is the potato ball? This is this is the kickoff of the main potato blossom festival. Right. And so I was like, Wha what what does that actually mean? Right? Because I showed up and there's like the the place was decorated, and the usually it's a VFW, so yeah, usually they had like the rectangle tables so everybody could sit. They had circular tables. Oh, you know what's serious then. Right, and covered and and not as many. And I was like, they're not gonna have enough seats, right? And I was like, oh I showed up and they were like, yeah, this is the this is the ball, the potato blossom ball. I'm like, what? And it was ten bucks a person to get in. And uh I was like, is our crowd coming? Well, our crowd came. There was two or maybe three tables of our crowd, but then the rest of them were like dignitaries and everything for the town. Susan um Souvernard was there, Jane Toll was there, um and about quarter of 15 minutes before we're gonna play, the town manager came in and says, Okay, everybody, we're gonna go out to the flags and do the opening ceremony, so we'd love to have you come out and join us. And so we went out and they did this, like three people did speeches. I heard a speech from Sue Bernard. Uh Susan Collins rep did it, uh, Angus Young's or Angus Young, Angus King's rep. And uh Jared Golden's rep. Um, they all did like little speeches, and and somebody sang the national anthem and and something else, and Tater Raisin Man, or something like that. It was the opening ceremonies.
SPEAKER_14And I'm like, like Tater Raising Man, like the the theme song from uh from uh the potato perker special.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_14Wow.
SPEAKER_05They played that uh right at the end. Yeah, that was the that was the kicker. And then we went in, then we went in and we played. And you know Buck Dynasty, it's like it's like we we only play together when we play, and we don't rehearse or anything, so it's like uh key of C. Yeah, what song? Oh, okay, we're gonna do this. So we just play because it's country music and it's usually really fairly easy. And um so we start playing, and you know, some people start dancing, and then the rest of the people really didn't know how to take us. Because it was like really old country music. Oh, yeah, yeah. And uh Kinsey showed up. Um he showed up with uh a date, I think. I think. Okay. I think he was on a date, maybe not. Anyway, he came over to talk to me during a break, and it was it was kind of cool. That's how I knew that's uh so so I found out that Kinsey may be coming to the gig this weekend.
SPEAKER_14Kevin.
SPEAKER_05Yes, right. Uh because he had an obligation in Michigan on Sunday, and I told I said to Pat, I said, so does that mean he's not gonna be at the oh no, he'll be there. Oh. Because he had told Chris that he wasn't gonna be.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, because Chris was under the impression that we needed an extra horn. So get this. Now we got like two or three extra horns. Right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So John Reeves is gonna be there. Hutch is gonna be there. Yep. Uh I think a goopal or both goopels. At least one goople. At least one goopal. Yeah. Adam.
SPEAKER_14Yep.
SPEAKER_05And Kevin, possibly.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, so that's five trumpets. That's a lot of trumpets. Yeah. So we have that green matawaska stage. Yeah. So I was I was saying to Chris, I stopped and I had to. Oh, we do? Oh, I wasn't. No, no, no, no.
SPEAKER_05We don't have the tent?
SPEAKER_14No.

SPEAKER_14Well, unless they unless they get it between now and then. But I doubt it. As far as I know, I haven't heard. Yeah, I doubt it. Tim Tim's in charge, so yeah. Um I said, I had to get I oh I I the first night I destroyed a snare head at church camp. At church camp? Yeah, I'm playing along and like ban, bang, and all of it sounded funny. I'm like, what the frick is. Is it your drums? Yeah, it's my drums. But the snare head had ripped open. And I was like, what the f it was the stock one that came with it.

SPEAKER_14I hadn't changed it out. So I was like, oh man, this sucks. So I kept playing with it. It's it's kind of like Yeah, I was like, oh, it's the Lars snare sound from Sane Anger. You know what I mean? So just like I played it off, but uh yeah, I had to go see Chris anyway yesterday and get a new head. Right. But I suggested that we put the horns on that stage and then everybody else set up front.
SPEAKER_05On the ground?
SPEAKER_14Yeah. Or they they might get those, remember those risers that we had in the in the tent?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_14Yeah. Might have those. I don't know why you wouldn't get the tent.
SPEAKER_05The tent was great.
SPEAKER_14Tent was awesome.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, but you know, whatever.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that stage.
SPEAKER_14I mean, that stage is good for like a regular size band.
SPEAKER_05Yes, not for 20 people.
SPEAKER_14No, it's just it just doesn't work.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_14So I I actually I was like, you know, let's put the horns up there. Rest of us, I I mean, I would love to be down on the ground because I got room to move. You know what I mean? I hate being on the stage, being crowded, and just be like, Yes, yeah.
SPEAKER_05It is a small stage for this band. Yeah, that's for sure. That's for sure. Um, so I mean we we'll take it as it comes.
SPEAKER_14That's what we're Yeah, I mean, we'll you know, we'll deal with it, whatever. I mean, just when we get there, I mean it'd be better than a stage we had in Oakfield, but it was uh what was the pallets?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_14We had to get power from the woods. Yes.
SPEAKER_05So I forgot about that one.
SPEAKER_14That was fun though.
SPEAKER_05Um and so yes, and the other thing about uh this coming uh weekends gig is we have no Anthony. Our lead singer is not able to make it because he's got a function somewhere else that he can't get out of and he feels really bad about it. But that just means you and Melissa are doing double duty. I've got a few songs I'm singing, but you and Melissa are have you seen the set list yet?
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's you and Melissa. Okay. Um Mark is doing a few. I think Joel might do one or two. Yeah. And I'm doing I think there's four, four songs. But other than that, it's you and Melissa.
SPEAKER_14That's fine.
SPEAKER_05So yeah. We have a good time.

SPEAKER_05Uh let's see. Nothing out of the ordinary. Melissa's doing a lot. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05Nothing out of the ordinary for you yet. Uh Livin La Vida Loca. Yeah. Uh yeah. Uh no, I guess there's nothing really out of the ordinary for you. Um I am singing, but it's alright, which I always do.
SPEAKER_16Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um I he's got me singing Saturday in the park. So that'll be interesting. Yeah.
SPEAKER_14Um But you do that other Chicago.
SPEAKER_05Yep. Yep. Uh he's got me singing Freeze Frame. You do that anyway. And the uh no, he does. Oh yeah, that's right. Yeah, Anthony does. Um and I think that's it for me. Besides the the other Chicago one. Right. Um so yeah. Melissa's doing the the the lion's share, which is fine. She's good. She's awesome.

SPEAKER_05Well, I think we're I think we're awesome. I think we're a great band, and I think we're we're not biased or anything. No. We're great and we know it. Well, here's the thing, we just have a ball.

But I wouldn't be surprised if we have a crowd by 7.30. They put someone else on the stage? Yeah, it's the opening. So we have an hour to set up, basically. Is that what is that what? Yeah. Do you know the band that's that's playing before? It's Trish King. Oh, okay. Oh, she may be acoustic.

SPEAKER_05Uh I do want to get to some music news. Um music news. Found a couple of things on Ultimate Classic Rock uh that seemed interesting to me. One because it it's Def Leopard, uh and I'm a big Def Leppard fan. Um apparently they are w working on a new album. Um in an age where most bands aren't. Right. Right? They're not even they're not even putting out full albums. Yeah. Uh they're doing singles because it's all streaming. Um but Joe Elliott, lead singer of Def Leopard, says that some of the uh the fans will be shocked. Of course, this is all clickbait as well. Of course it is. They'll be shocked by the material on the upcoming 13th studio album. Uh Diamond Star Halo's was the one before this, and that was actually really good album. That was that was good. Yeah. Uh there were probably, I don't know.
SPEAKER_14But I mean, the only way they're gonna shock me is if Rick Allen comes with another little arm.
SPEAKER_05So Yeah. Uh I mean, you know what to expect. It's Diamond Star Halo's was good. I would have left about four songs off of it. And I think we talked about that one time. Um they had a single back in February called Rejoice, which wasn't really that great. It was okay. Um is that gonna be on the new album? I don't know. Let's see. Uh there's uh the delay between the single and its associated full-length record. So yes, it will be on the new album. Okay. Uh I said we released it in time for the Vegas residency. We did a Vegas residency in February, and we wanted to play a new song, so it made sense to actually put it out. The album won't be out until early 27, because we're still recording it. We're actually recording parts of it in Vegas on days off. We would go down into the basement of the casino and set it up as a studio, so we're still actively recording now and mixing. Uh he said they have about 18 songs, although not all of them would make the final record. Uh we've kind of got nearly nearly two albums. We're going to pick and choose which ten or eleven we think are the right ones. We've got some great songs, very varied. He says, I'll tell you this much, we've written the fastest song we've ever done. And we've also written the most ridiculously over-the-top, pretentious, massive big kind of song.
SPEAKER_14Like fastest is in beats per minute, or like No, not I think yeah.
SPEAKER_05Not not like the fastest they've ever written.
SPEAKER_14Okay.
SPEAKER_05I think it's like fast.
SPEAKER_14Like a like a punk thing.
SPEAKER_05I I yeah. Uh they've also written the most over-the-top, pretentious, massive, big kind of bombastic song that we've ever written, and uh lots of stuff in between. It's very varied, it's very eclectic. Uh a lot of people will be shocked because of the direction that we're going in, because it's not one direction, it's ten different directions, and we love being able to do that. Uh the album will be finished on time. We'll be touring the summer, working on the album. We need to get it finished at the end of the summer, the early early release next year. So I don't know how I feel about I mean I like I I like them stretching their wings a little bit, you know. Um the fastest song they've ever done. Wasted was pretty fast. Like on their own.
SPEAKER_14I'm curious as to the wording of that. That's just the fast I mean that could that be that could be taken a couple different ways.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_14So I don't know. We'll have to wait and see.

Long erased Beatles Mentor to get his due on new TV series. Now that made me think, A, uh, who is the mentor that was long was erased? And B, there's a new Beatles TV series?

SPEAKER_05Well, that would that would be the mentor that I would be I would be thinking of, but he hasn't been erased. He hasn't been erased. No, no. So let's see. Let's see what it says. A six-part TV drama exploring the Beatles' two-year stint in the German city of Hamburg will reintroduce a forgotten key player in the band's early years. Who is it?

SPEAKER_05Hamburg Days is expected to air via the BBC in 2027 or 2028. Filming began in May. Uh it follows the period uh 1960 to 62, in which John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Stuart Sutcliffe, and Pete Best endured a grueling schedule of over 750 concerts, learning the discipline that led to success. Uh let's see. In a new interview with The Guardian, Carragher, who is the writer. Is he the writer? Hold on. Uh yes, Jamie Carragher, he's the writer. He said he made a point of bringing calypso musician Lord Woodbine back into the Beatles story. Ever heard of Lord Woodbine? You're a Beatles freak, and you've read everything about the Beatles. Yeah. Have you ever heard of Lord Woodbine? No. Okay.
SPEAKER_14This is interesting.
SPEAKER_05McCartney and Lennon respected him in a musical sense. There weren't many people in their lives at this point who wrote their own songs, and Lord Woodbine did that via the Calypso tradition. One of Lennon's earliest songs was titled Calypso Rock. Trinidad born Woodbine, real name Harold Adolphus Phillips, came to Liverpool during the Second World War with the Royal Air Force. He later ran the city's famed Jacaranda Club and became the Beatles' co-manager, along with friend and business partner Alan Williams. Do you recognize that name?
SPEAKER_14I do.
SPEAKER_05Okay. Why have they never talked about this Lord Woodbine? I don't know. Academic and author Malik Al-Nasir told The Guardian that Lennon and McCartney used to come and offer to clean and collect glasses for Woodblot Woodbine. In return, he would feed them and help them out by teaching them chords. Uh let's see, he said, I don't even know if Woodbine even had a contract with the Beatles, but he certainly picked them up when no one else cared. He took them to Hamburg, a place that nobody else really thought about. He died in a house fire in 2000 at 72 years old. By then he'd spoken about having been effectively written out of the Fab Force history, outshone by Epstein's contribution to their success. In 92, he saw a photo from the Hamburg era at a promotional event, but he'd been removed from the image. He said, When I saw that, it hurt me. That was the end of the Beatles' memory and me. So let's see, in the photo below, Woodbine can be seen third from left.

Uh, but I absolutely had to go with O'Brien's pick from the original Twister soundtrack. Yeah, yeah. I love that movie. And as soon as you guys read the question, that was the first song I could think of, was that scene specifically when he starts blaring that song over the loud speaker on the bus. So definitely had to go with O'Brien this week.

SPEAKER_05You know, the the sad thing is his son's friend is cockroach. He has he he has been blacklisted, obviously, and and for good reason, I guess. But you know, I just went through all I'm going through CDs now, and uh also earlier today and yesterday I went through some DVDs, and I have like all of the seasons of the Cosby show.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, and I I I keep thinking about that. I'm like, you know, it was such a great show.
SPEAKER_05It was an amazing show.
SPEAKER_14We love we all loved that show so much. Yeah. I mean he was America's dad.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_14You know, I mean can you still separate that from what we know now?
SPEAKER_05I have to. I have to because you know, my kids watched that. I I I showed it to my kids. Yeah. And they love the costume.

SPEAKER_05And I don't know that they know uh what happened in the end then. Right. Um I I don't I think I think we kind of kept that away from them. Uh maybe my older ones do now. Maybe, yeah. You know, yeah. But uh, you know that show will forever be a part of, you know, my children.
SPEAKER_14I mean, yeah, we watched that show religiously, you know. I mean, and it was hilarious. It was a great show. We loved it. Yeah. We love I loved uh Fat Albert as a kid, you know, and that was all him too, you know. It's just like, you know, it's what was that uh picture picture page that he always did? Picture pages. Picture pages. Yeah, you know, I mean, we grew up with Bill Cosby. Yeah. You know, listening to his uh stand-up, you know, Noah and uh, you know, uh Buck Buck and all that stuff, you know, and I mean just it was but it was all he goes to the dentist. Oh the dentist, dude!

Honorable mention to Beyoncé's single ladies because SNL skit with her, Justin Timberlake, Andy Sandberg, and Bobby Moynihan is frickin' hilarious.

Now we played uh a bunch of tracks from Robert Palmer last week. Uh I will just remind you uh a couple of them because you know we have to make this episode extra long uh because you're not gonna hear us again. You're not gonna hear us for a while. Um so we're gonna be gone. So it had things like this. Oh wait, did we get a we get a uh one from Morton too, didn't we? Did we? Thought so. All right, so that's diploma irresistible. We also had stuff from uh the power station, like this one. Some like it hot. Yeah, get it on, man. Bad case of loving you, addicted to love. Alright, so maybe I can I don't know if I can keep that playing in the background while I do this. So I'm gonna hear from well uh let's do Larry first. Okay. Okay, so Larry says, Cousin Larry says, um, Smash or Trash, very best with Robert Palmer. Since I myself own this one, I have to vote Smash. It's an excellent listen from start to finish. So can I debut the Yes? I can.

Just tune your radio to 96.1 and wait approximately 17 to 22 minutes. He's not wrong. No, no, he's not wrong. So uh Chris votes Try Got it. So one. One one. Uh bouncing Bob. Uh the very best of Robert Palmer. I think Robert Palmer was a showman, not a music artist. He used the excesses of the eighties to make a boatload of money. His two biggest claims to fame, simply irresistible and addicted to love, were shocking with the heavily made-up and jiggly models. A showman who joined the power station in another money grab, he left the band while on tour. A relic from the 80s. I do not want to hear his covers like Some Guys of All the Luck, Mercy Mercy Me, or any of his songs. So Bouncing Bob oats. That's two trash and one smash so far. What what did the judge?

I love the blue-eyed soul stuff, you know.
